Fun activities planned for 6th annual Culumber Classic

---- — The Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation will host the 6th Annual Culumber Classic on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at The National at Eagle Creek, Findlay, Illinois, beginning with a shot gun start at 8 a.m.

A variety of team categories are available for every skill level of golfer and spots for team registrations are still available. Team options include Senior, Farmer, Family and Fun Foursome. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams in each category. The registration fee is $55 per golfer which includes 18 holes of golf, cart and lunch.

There will be additional fun activities for golfers to participate in during the Culumber Classic including proximity contests for men’s and women’s closest to the pin, longest putt and longest drive. Additionally, golfers will have the opportunity to pay to move up and drive from the next tee, chip into a swimming pool and putt from a designated point. Prize money will be awarded in the chipping and putting contests.

Battery Specialists + Golf Carts, Taylorville, will sponsor a hole in one contest. Players will have a chance to hit a hole in one from a Par 3 at The National during the outing. The prize is a two passenger Club Car.

A catered lunch will be prepared by the Findlay American Legion. The menu includes a pork chop, baked beans, potato salad, dessert and drink. The lunch will be served by 2013 Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation scholarship winners. Lunch will be served beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Family, friends and Shelby County Farm Bureau directors have been selling Golf Ball Drop tickets. A golf ball drop by Prairie Sky Cam will be held at approximately 1 p.m. Golf Ball Drop Tickets are $5 each and only 500 tickets will be sold. The three closest golf balls to the target will receive cash prizes of $500, $300 and $150. The golf ball the furthest away from the target will win $150.

The John Culumber Memorial Scholarship is administered and perpetuated through the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation. All proceeds from the golf outing will be contributed to the John Culumber Memorial and Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation Scholarships.

Since 2009, the Foundation has awarded $81,250 in scholarships to students through the scholarship programs.
