Okaw Goes To 4-0

---- — The 6th inning was the difference in the rural rivalry between Okaw Valley and Stew-Stras/Windsor on Saturday that took Okaw Valley to 4-0 this season. Okaw beat SS/W, 6-3.

Garrett Fritz got the win for Okaw Valley throwing seven strikeouts. Fritz allowed just two earned runs, on five hits and one walk in seven innings.

Cody Drake led Okaw in hitting. Drake singled, homered in the all-important fifth, then doubled in the sixth. Fritz and Drake combined for four hits and five RBIs.

The game was a pitching duel for five innings, with Okaw up just 1-0 on Drake solo shot in the 5th. Then in the 6th, Okaw shook loose.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Fritz launched a grand slam, 5-1 Okaw. Drake followed wioth a double and Yarnell singled him home, 6-1.

Windsor came right back in the bottom of the 6th, just not enough. With one out, Thies singled and Kessler reached on an error. Kramer then lofted his own home runs, a 3-run shot, cutting the deficit in half, 6-3. Quast tried to keep it going with a single, but he was left on.

Okaw went down in order in the 7th, leaving the door open for SS/W.

However, SS/W also went down in order on two ground balls and a final line out.

The 4 win streak started Monday with Okaw beating Sullivan, 11-0.

After the 10-run drubbing on Monday, Okaw pulled a repeat on Tuesday, beating LSA 11-0.

They used a 7-run 4th to get separation and win by 10 in 5, again. Drake had two hits and two RBIs in the game, while Austin Harshman threw a 5-hit shutout.

Okaw got on the board in the 1st when Harshman walked and Drake hit an RBI single. Yarnell walked and Dickens walked, followed by Hill’s RBI double, 3-0. In the 3rd, Francisco reached on an error. With two outs, Fritz doubled Francisco home, 4-0.

In the 4th, the first seven Okaw batters reached base. Francisco reached on another error and Harshman singled. Hagerman walked to load the bases. Fritz hit a 2-run single. Drake hit an RBI single, 7-0.

After two outs, Okaw put five straight batters on base. Hill reached on an error, Bunfill reached on a fielder’s choice with everybody safe. Francisco singled a run in. Holt singled and Hagerman walked, 11-0.

LSA was suddenly on the brink and Okaw ended it. After a single, three ground balls brought on the early dismissal.

Okaw jumped on Meridian early and notched another early dismissal on Thursday, 14-0.

A 5-run 1st, a 4-run 2nd, and a 5-run 3rd buried Meridian. Hayden Francisco picked up the win. He pitched a shutout, allowing just two hits, while ringing up three.

Harshman walked in the 1st, Hagerman singled and Fritz doubled, 2-0. Drake singled Fritz home, 3-0. Yarnell walked and Dickens reached on an error, 5-0.

In the 2nd, Harshman walked again with one out. Hagerman doubled a run in, Fritz singled. Drake tripled two runs home. Yarnell grounded out Drake scored before Holt singled, 9-0.

In the 4th, Macklin singled, Hagerman singled and Fritz, Russell, and Yarnell reached on errors. Holt singled and with one out Francisco reached on an error. Bunfill singled in two and Macklin walked. A play at the plate ended the inning with Okaw up, 14-0.

All three Meridian batters grounded out in the 5th for another early dismissal.
