---- — Shelbyville boys track was missing a few pieces, but they were still able to win by a nose at the Redskin Open in Sullivan on Tuesday. Shelby won the meet with 89 points, nipping Mattoon (88) and Central A&M (87). Arcola was also a close 4th (81.5) and SOV (75) was just 14-points off the pace in 5th.

Less surprising was another meet championship for the reigning state champion Lady Raiders of Central A&M. A&M (138.33) was able to out-pace host SOV (127.83) for the title. The rest of the female field was in the back 40, almost 80 points back.

Eli Miller (SH) denied Jason Pokalsey (CAM) a sweep in the sprints by taking the 200 dash by half a second (22.44 to 22.94). Pokalsey won the 100 (11.21) and the quarter (50.24).

The Rams picked up a lot of their points from the cross country boys in the distances. Neil Yockey won the 1600 (4:40.49) and Jaden Stockdale took 3rd (4:52.53). Alex Matlock won the 3200 (10:26.83). Drennian Martin was 4th in the 400 (53.02) and Tyler Hendryx (not cross country) was 7th (55.37). Cory Powers was 2nd (2:00.98) with his season-best in the 800 and Myles Foor was 3rd (2:03.34), also a season-best.

Shelby won the 4x400, again, with Martin, Foor, Hendryx, and Powers (3:33.41) a Ram season-best and 2nd best in the area this season. Shelby also won the 4x800 relay. Stockdale, Martin, Foor, and Powers ran a 8:40.12, another Ram season-best and 2nd best in the area this season.

Mikel Welton stepped up in the shot put for Shelby, throwing 45-5.5 and claiming 2nd place. Zack Ballinger gave A&M some big points by taking 2nd in the 110 hurdles (17.78) and the long jump (19-10).

On the girls side, A&M rode hurdles, distance and relays to victory even with state champ Taylor Adcock absent. Kaitlyn Corzine won the 100 hurdles (16.49) and the A&M future in hurdles, Ryan Dooley, placing 2nd (17.09). Dooley then won the 300 hurdles (49.46).

Salena Sloan and Allie Heaton stepped up in the distances. Sloan won the 1600 (5:41.19) and Heaton placed 3rd (6:09.03). Heaton then won the 2-mile (12:58.63) and Abbie Collins placed 8th (15:32.37).

A&M placed in all four relays, winning three of them and placing 2nd in the other. Dooley, Corzine, Jorgi Sparrgrove, who was 4th in the 200 (28.38) and 5th in the 100 (13.81), and Sarah Bailey won the 4x1 (52.78). Dooley, Sloan, Mikaela Cole, and Corzine, who was 2nd in the 400 (1:02.02), won the 4x4 relay (4:18.97). Cole, Kylee Burcham, Paige Seitz, who was 4th in the 800 (2:40.63), and Sloan won the 4x8 relay (10:27.21). Defending state 4x2 champ SOV won that relay (Ericka Tomczewski, Mollie Bowman, Amanda McClain, Emily Neuhauser) in 1:47.80. A&M took 2nd, featuring Kayleigh Postin, Abigail Hilton, Sparrgrove, and Heaton (1:53.58).

Genny Rose Stringer led the CAM field events, winning another discus competition (129-1) and placing 4th in the shot put (32-1).

SOV's close 2nd was again fueled by their sprinters. Amanda McClain swept the 200 (26.12), 400 (58.93) and long jump (16-6). Mollie Bowman was 2nd in the long jump (15-6), won the triple (32-5), and Megan Dash won the high jump (5-2).

Neuhauser and Tomczewski were 2nd (13.4) and 3rd (13.74) in the 100 and Neuhauser was 2nd in the 200 (26.81). In addition to being 1st in the 4x2, SOV was also 2nd in the 4x4 (Lamb, Nuzzo, Marshall, Neuhauser) and 4x8 (Nuzzo, Nuzzo, Dash, Marshall).

Shelby girls' best performance was by underclassman Morgan Powers, who won another 800 (2:27.89). Underclassman Blair Johnston was runner-up in the mile (5:54.30 and Brooke Cieplik was 4th (6:10.08). Senior Keeley Buhrmester also scored well with a 3rd place in the 200 (27.81) and 4th in the 100 (13.75).
