In a continued meeting from last week, the Shelbyville City Council selected councilman Jeff Johnson as acting mayor, completing the term of the late mayor Roy Shuff.
"I appreciate the opportunity to serve. I have big shoes to fill. Roy was a great teacher and I'm looking forward to living up to that," Johnson said.
"I feel good about this. Now we can move forward," said councilman Bill Shoaff. Shoaff was also nominated as acting mayor at last week's meeting, but nominated Johnson in Tuesday night's continued meeting. Councilmen Brent Fogleman and Gib Smart approved the nomination.
Johnson added that he will be resigning his position as street commissioner and the seat will be filled by appointment in a future meeting.
