Rams allow 1 hit in 2 games

Shelbyville Moulton baseball kicked off their fall season kicking Clinton with a 1-hitter and a no-hitter, both in five innings. They won the A game, 10-0, with Tylr Gottfriedt throwing a 1-hitter and won the B game, 7-0, with Malcolm Miller throwing a no-hitter.

In the A game, Gottfriedt and the Ram defense allowed just three base runners in the 5-inning early dimissal. Gottfriedt rang up 10 batters in four innings of work, walked two and allowed one hit. Gottfriedt struck out three in the 1st, one in the 2nd, struck out all three batters in the 3rd and struck out three more in the 4th.

Turner Pullen came on in the 5th to close and struck out two, allowing no runs, no hits, and walking no one. Twelve of the 15 outs came from strikeouts. Pullen at 3rd and Quinn Martz at short threw batters out in the 2nd. Martz threw out another batter in the 5th.

While the pitching and defense held Clinton in check, the Ram offense assaulted the Clinton fielders. Shelby had six hits, including a triple and a double, and reached base six more times on balls put in play that were booted. Shelby also received four walks. Shelby had 16 base runners to Clinton’s three.

Daythan Summers drew a lead-off walk and Gottfriedt reached on a 1-out error. Pullen then doubled in two runs for a quick 2-0 lead. In the 2nd, Martz led off reaching on an error and stole 2nd and 3rd. Miller drew a walk and Mason Cameron reached on an error. Summers drove in a run on a ground out and Cade Watson drove in another run via ground out for a 5-0 lead.

In the 3rd, Pullen followed up his 2-run double with a lead-off triple. Payton Howell grounded out, but drove Pullen across, 6-0. With two outs, the Rams ginned up a rally. Martz walked and went to 2nd on a passed ball. Miller singled Martz in, 7-0. Cameron singled and Summers hit an RBI-single, 8-0.
