Rams roll to Bement title

---- — The Shelbyville Lady Rams grabbed the gold at the Annual Mike Walsh Tournament in Bement this weekend, running the table. They beat Judah Christian, 57-48, beat Buckley Lutheran, 57-24, and beat Cerro Gordo-Bement in the championship, 51-45.

Senior Lindsay Burton (Stew-Stras) and underclassmen Grace Schuler (Stew-Stras) led Shelby over Judah Christian in the Friday opener, 57-48. Burton had a double-double again, 15 points, 15 rebounds. Schuler had a career-high 15 points and a team-high five assists. Olivia Williamson (Windsor) also recorded a double-double, 12 points, 13 boards.

Shelbyville built an 8-point lead through three period, then matched Judah’s final push, scoring 21 points in the final quarter.

Against Buckley Lutheran on Saturday, Shelbyville role players had a chance to step up and lead the Rams to a win.

Jami Hennings led the way with 13 points, including 3-of-4 at the line, and six boards. Quincy Beyers scored six points with three boards and Bri Ruff scored six points. Burton and Williamson had eight points, each. Shelby built a 11 point lead by half-time, then posted a 24-5 run in the 3rd to deal the death blow and punch their ticket for the title game.

Shelbyville fell behind early to Cerro Gordo-Bement in the title bout and trailed by nine points at the break. The Rams didn’t quit. They came out of the locker room, got some traction reeled CG in, trimming the deficit to six points heading into crunch time. A 16-4 blitz down the stretch buried Bement and vaulted Shelby to the championship.

Courtney Schultz (Stew-Stras) registered a career-high 25 points with a trey hatrick, 10 field goals in all, and a team-high four steals. Schoolmate Grace Schuler followed with 13 points and a team-high four assists.
