Athlete of the Week

Daily Union Athletes of the Week had season-high performances.

Paige Harlin from Okaw Valley scored a career-high 29 points in the Timberwolves’ win over LSA on Monday, 61-45.

Harlin was an arc angel with five 3s, connecting twice from the 3-point line and scoring seven points in the 1st period. Harlin splashed two more long shots in the 2nd period and sank a deuce for eight more points in the 2nd, 15 by half-time. Harlin scored in close twice in the 3rd for 19 points through three periods. In the 4th, Harlin made another bomb from downtown, a two and 5-of-7 at the stripe for 10 points to cap her 29-point performance.

Okaw Valley schoolmate Peyton Hagerman broke out for 26 points on Friday night in a win over Shelbyville, 68-61. Hagerman didn’t score in the 1st, then put up 26 points in the Okaw push from behind.

Hagerman, like a whirling dervish, scored three times in the 2nd. He scored nine points in the 3rd, once from the arc, twice inside the bow, plus 2-of-2 at the line. Hagerman had 11 points in crunch time, a trey a two and 7-of-8 from the line to ice the game.

Courtney Schultz a Stew-Stras guard playing for the Shelbyville Lady Rams had a career-high 25 points, scoring half of the Ram points in the championship game of the Bement Tourney on Saturday against Cerro Gordo-Bement, 51-45.

Schultz started easy with a deuce and 2-of-2 free throws early. She added a trey and a deuce in the 2nd for nine y half-time. She scored 9-of-14 Ram points in the 3rd, on three twos and a triple. In the 4th quarter come-from-behind, Schultz scored two more times, then finished with a 3-pointer for a trey hat trick and 25 points.
