Jason Jordan Coat Drive underway

Shelbyville Daily Union

---- — Dawn Reeves is once again collecting winter coats for the Jason Jordan Memorial Coat Drive December 15-29.

Her goal this year is 500 coats. She has already passed out 115 coats this year to various organizations.

“The demand is ridiculous,” Reeves said.

Reeves began the coat drive last year in memory of her son Jason Jordan.

“Jason was a generous boy who had a heart for others. He would give his own coat away to a kid who didn’t have one. He is my inspiration for the coat drive,” Reeves said.

Coats were collected at various locations in town and taken to Shelby Christian Church for distribution and to area homeless shelters. This year she is collected gently used and new coats in all sizes to take to the Shelby Christian Church, area homeless shelters and crisis centers. All coats are cleaned before they are distributed.

Collection boxes will be set up beginning December 15 at Walmart, County Market, Marathon, Qik & Ez, Casey’s, all in Shelbyville, and all branches of Community Banks of Shelby County.

“I encourage all churches that if they know of someone in need of a coat to contact me or the Shelby Christian Church,” Reeves said.

Reeves may be contacted at 774-5693.
