Shelbyville Daily Union

---- — Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting the 3rd Annual Eagle Day event on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center. Celebrate our national symbol by coming out to learn more about the bald eagle.

The Illinois Raptor Center will be presenting two Birds of Prey programs featuring a live bald eagle along with other live birds of prey. There will be two programs both lasting approximately 50 minutes each. The first program starts at 11:00 a.m. and the second will start at 1:00 p.m. There is no cost to attend the program, however only 150 seats will be available per showing. A portion of the tickets for these seats will be available to be picked up in person on a first come first serve basis at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center during normal business hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting Monday, February 10, 2014. There is a limit of 6 tickets per person that can be picked up prior to the day of the event. All remaining tickets will be available the day of the event.

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, park rangers will have spotting scopes and binoculars available in the lobby for those interested in viewing the birds on Lake Shelbyville. We hope to spot a few eagles this year. There will also be activities available for children of all ages to enjoy.

This is a great opportunity to come out and gain more appreciation for the bald eagle. Don’t forget to bring your family and friends to the Lake Shelbyville Eagle Day at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center. For additional information, contact the Lake Shelbyville Project Office at (217) 774-3951.
