Wesley Strong, 83, of Lafayette, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at St. Mary Health Care.
He was born March 5, 1925 in Fort Lyon, MO. to Zenos G. Strong and Dimple Ashinhurst Strong.
Mr. Strong was a manger with Texas Refining Corp. for 25 years. He was a navy hospital corpsman during World War II and the Korean War, retiring after serving 22 years. He was a five time recipient of the Purple Heart, and received a Combat Medal of Valor and a Bronze Star, as well as other commendations and medals.
He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, where he had been a president , elder and deacon. He was a member of American Legion Post II and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
On July 1, 1961, he married Lettie A. “Lil” Van Schepen in Lafayette, Ind. and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Linda E. McClure of San Diego; three brothers, Gene Strong ( wife Linda) of Columbia, Mo., Don Strong ( wife Sheila) of Belton, MO., and Gary Wheeler ( Wife Janet) of Shelbyville, Ill. and five Sisters, Glenna Henry ( husband Jerry) of Columbia, Mo. , Betty Walker of Mode, IL, Eileen Albin ( husband Bill) and Jane Edwards (husband Joe) both of Clinton, Mo. and Joy Abney ( husband Johnny) of Calhoun, MO.
Services were held in Lafayette at the Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel in Lafayette Ind. with Interment in Spring Creek Cemetery in White County, Ind.
