Formerly of Shelbyville, IL

 

Stephan Harry “Steve” Smart, 58, of Manteno, IL, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, died at 5:48 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 in his residence.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals in Shelbyville. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Steve was born on March 5, 1955 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of W. Roy and Mary Janice Gibson Smart. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1973 and Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL with a B.A. Degree in Education. Steve taught school in Kansas, IL before becoming a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force. Following his time in the service, Steve attended Lake Land College and earned an Associate Degree in Computer Programing. He then worked in the computer departments of State Farm and later Caterpillar. Most recently Steve worked for Schneider National Trucking in Kankakee, IL. He was baptized in the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville.

He is survived by his brothers, Gib Smart and wife Alma of Shelbyville and Denny Smart of Shelbyville; sisters, Sally Lash and husband Roger of Findlay and Barbara Adams and husband Lon of Gobles, MI; nephews, Gibby Smart of San Jose, CA, Andy Smart of Simpsonville, KY; nieces Ashley Cheatham of St. Louis, MO, Jennifer Eamer of Los Angeles, CA, Amy Adams Miller of Kalamazoo, MI and Meredith Adams Smart of Chicago, IL; three great nephews; and one great niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
