Windsor Earns Title Bout

Windsor (12-1) advanced to the championship game of the NTC 7th grade tourney on Tuesday with a blow-out win over Dieterich, 44-13, then with a nip ‘n tuck win on Wednesday in OT over Cowden-Herrick, 32-30.

On Tuesday, the Trojans opened with a 7-1 run, then followed it with a 15-4 run to lead Dieterich by 17 points at the break, 22-5. The rout continued after the half with a 10-5 run and a final 12-3 blitz for the 31-point victory.

Logan Greul led all scorers with 17 points and 12 boards for a doubleBen Beck scored nine points and grabbed 14 boards for a near double-double.

In the Wednesday semifinal, the win wasn’t so easy. Cowden-Herrick had a 1-point lead after one, 10-9. Windsor was able to tie by the break, 16-16. They took a 1-point lead through three, 24-23. But the defensive 4th was a grin it out period that lef the two teams tied scoring only nine points between them, 28-28.

In the shortened extra-period, Windsor pulled out the 4-2 advantage and escaped for the title shot against Sigel. Cowden-Herrick was set to play St. Elmo/Brownstown in the 3rd place game.

In other action, Stew-Stras beat Dieterich, 28-24, on Wednesday to earn a trip to the consolation championship against Altamont.
