Shelbyville

Robert S. Connelly, 90, of Shelbyville passed away at 11:50 p.m. Friday (March 29, 2013) at the Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with Masonic rites at 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Building Fund or the donor’s choice.

He was born May 3, 1922 in Shelby County the son of William H and Virginia M. (Herron) Connelly. He married Virginia B. Tutt November 15, 1942 in Joliet.

Bob owned and operated Connelly’s Building Center for nearly 60 years. He served in the US Navy 63rd Naval Construction Battalion from December of 1942 until September of 1945. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, American Legion and VFW all in Shelbyville and the Scottish Rites Consistory in Springfield. Bob was actively involved in the Shelbyville community for many years.

Surviving are his wife Virginia; daughter, Ginnie Hostetler (Richard); granddaughters, Rebecca Mahnke (Tyson) and Elizabeth Hawkins (Chad); great-grandchildren, Sydney Blades (Brandon), Andrew Hawkins, Victoria Honigman, Katherine Honigman and Alex Hawkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Scott and sisters, Wilma Reynolds and Velma Connelly.

The family would like to give a special thanks to staff of the Shelbyville Manor and Shelby Memorial Hospital and emergency room for their care and kindness for Bob during his stay.
