SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Lyle Dean Pettyjohn

Cowden

Lyle Dean Pettyjohn, 76, of Cowden, IL, passed away at 10:29 AM Monday Nov. 11, 2013 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Lyle was born June 25, 1937 in Shelby County, IL the son of Leverett and Eva Cihak Pettyjohn.

He married Daisy Rhoades on Nov. 10, 1955 in Fayette County, IL.

Lyle was a lifelong farmer. From 1958 – 1965 he and Daisy moved to Tampa, FL where he owned and operated a landscaping business. In 1965 Lyle returned to his family farm at Cowden and returned farming. Lyle was retired, but still helped neighboring farmers with spring planting and fall harvesting. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and loved playing golf with family and friends. In his younger years, he was a softball pitcher in the Cowden area and in Tampa.

Surviving are his wife Daisy; children: Sue Moffett of Cowden, Lyle Pettyjohn of Cowden, and Kyle (Mary Lu) Pettyjohn of Sigel, IL; grandchildren: Michelle (Jason) Manley, Doug (Tabitha) Moffett and Jackie (Tony) Richards, Sara (Mike) Towler, Trent (Ashley) Pettyjohn, Jessica Pettyjohn and Jamie Hebron; great grandchildren: Mason Manley, Jaxon Manley, Quinten Richards, Sydney Richards, Brynn Richards, Aubree Towler, Cayden Pettyjohn, Cierra Pettyjohn and Elsy Carter; sister Bessie Klepzig of Crawfordsville, IN.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dianne Jones, great grandchild Lillianna Moffett, brothers: Donald Pettyjohn and Ralph Pettyjohn (in infancy) and sisters: Maurine Kiefling, Hazel Wildman and Eileen Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday Nov. 15, 2013 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden
