Nell Bliler, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014. Nell was born in Jefferson County, IL on February 9, 1932 to Lucy and Charles Cooper.

Nell graduated from Rochester High School and then from Springfield Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 as a registered nurse. Nell married James W. Bliler on December 26, 1953. Nell loved being a nurse and worked at Springfield Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville Memorial Hospital and as an office nurse for the late Dr. O.G. Kauder. She also worked as a mental health nurse at Decatur Memorial Hospital and as a case manager for Shelby County Mental Health Services.

Nell loved her family and friends, and was crazy about her granddaughters. In her younger years, she worked with the youth at the First Christian Church in Shelbyville, teaching Sunday School and leading Bible studies. She was passionate about her faith and serving others. Together, Nell and Jim loved to host family and friends in their home. They loved the lake, they loved each other, they loved God.

Nell is survived by her daughter Jamie Hirt, her son and his wife, Scott and Terry, granddaughters Emily (Nate) Powers, Lucy (Clay) Edens, Jessica Bliler and Polly (Daniel) Downey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Jim, and her son-in-law, Joseph Hirt.

Nell’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 11:00 A.M, at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be held prior to that at 10:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Suite 200, Bethesda, MD 20814.
