Howard was born on December 8, 1918 on a farm near Windsor in Shelby County, IL, the son of Ben and Dianthia Nevada Mason Tull.  As a young boy, he attended Red Fox School and was no stranger to hard work.  Howard was always helping his father with all the chores, taking care of livestock and working in the fields.  At about age eighteen, he traveled to Detroit, MI with the hopes of becoming a tool and die maker, which he did.  He married and started his family there.  They moved back to Shelby County and Howard worked on a farm he had purchased and also worked in his trade as a tool and die maker.  He worked for the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville, General Electric in Decatur and Mt. Zion Tool and Die.  In 1960, he and good friends, Joe Young and George Harvey, started Shelby Tool and Die.  After his partners retired, Howard continued the business with his son, Howard Ray.  Never giving up his roots, he continued on as a farmer.  Howard loved his family, his horses and his dog.  He helped a lot of people and made many friends in Tennessee and Arizona. He was affiliated with the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville, IL.  Howard was dearly loved by his family.  He married Vallie Smith on May 10, 1941.  She died on November 11, 1985.  On July 14, 1990, he married Donna D. Brown Himes.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Howard Ray Tull and wife Joyce of Shelbyville, IL; step-daughter, Mitzi  Gaddis and husband Terry of Shelbyville, IL; son-in-law, Sidney Sherwood and wife Carolyn of St. Cloud, MN; brother, Robert Tull and wife Pat of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Sean Tull and wife Judy of Kernersville, NC, Jill Rapier and husband Chris of Champaign, IL, Ericka Anderson and husband Donald of Oak Park, IL, Dawn Drake and husband Bill of Charleston, IL and Kim Davis and husband Brad of Shelbyville, IL; great grandchildren, Alyssa and Cody Tull, Beau, Emmaline and Elliott Rapier, Isabelle Anderson, Jeremy Drake, Jessica Drake, Taylor Drake, Brittany Agney and husband Tyler, Breanna Davis, Kaylee Davis and Taylor Davis; and great great grandson, Taven Agney.
