Curtis Elwin McDonald, 88, of Tower Hill passed away at 12:48 a.m. Sunday (April 13, 2014) at the Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (April 19, 2014) in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. David Hutton and Rev. Tom Compton officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Red Bank Cemetery, Lakewood with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Tower Hill United Methodist Church, Lakewood United Methodist Church or the Gideon’s.

He was born July 22, 1925 in Lakewood the son of Homer Morris and Elsie Pearl (Munson) McDonald. He married Hilda Marie Bullock December 29, 1945 in Shelbyville and she preceded him in death August 19, 1984. He then married Nancy Cannon Starwalt November 26, 1988 in Tennessee and she preceded him in death October 13, 2011.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School and then served in the US Army during WW II from 1944-1946. He was a retired farmer, member and board chairman of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and then a member of the Tower Hill Methodist Church, Gideon’s, VFW and American Legion in Shelbyville, Tower Hill Lions Club, Lakewood Township Board, Shelby County Farm Bureau, Illinois Agriculture Association, Lakeland College Foundation Board, former member and president of the Shelbyville School Board, state director of the Health Improvement Board and a blood donor giving over 20 gallons.

Surviving are his children, Jeanette (Jim) Nacke of Charleston, David (Alice) McDonald of Tower Hill, Norma (Mike) Walters of Cowden, Darrell (Amy C.) McDonald of Lakewood and Amy Jo (Scott) Flaig of Bloomington; step-children, Robert (Pam) Thompson of McMinnville, TN, Kenneth (Rhea) Thompson of Indio, CA, Laurie (Charles) Sewell of Baxter, TN and Karen (David) Rogers Hogan of Phoenix, AZ; brother Stanley McDonald of Lakewood; sister Nelda Koontz of Lakewood; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Hilda and Nancy and brothers, Ervil, Wayne and Paul McDonald.
