SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Wanda June King
Wanda June (Schwenker) King, 76 of Forsyth, IL (formerly of Shelbyville, IL) was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 9:06 PM at home in Forsyth, IL with her loving family by her side.
Visitation will be held at Lockart - Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she was a member (3778 N. Water St., Decatur, IL 62526). An additional visitation will be held two hours before the service on Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Wanda’s memory to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 1300 W. South 3rd St in Shelbyville.
Wanda was born June 9, 1937 in Shelbyville, IL to Roy and Phoebe (Ruff) Schwenker. She spent her youth on her parent’s farm. She is a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Decatur and she formerly was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelbyville where she attended Sunday school for 15 years with perfect attendance from age 3 to 18. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1954.
Wanda loved playing sports and being active. In her younger years she enjoyed boating and water skiing and also played competitive softball and bowled. She was a member of the Shelbyville Impala’s 1966 Illinois Fast Pitch Championship Softball Team. She remained active later in life playing tennis and golf. She also enjoyed several years of walking along the Destin, FL beach, while taking a break from winter. She was an avid Illini Basketball and St. Louis Cardinal fan. Wanda loved her church and devoted her life to serving the Lord. Her loving heart and kind words comforted many.
She worked for Oliver Corporation, Civil Services and was an Assistant Personnel Manager for Sears. She was a 70 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #81 in Shelbyville and was a volunteer for the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary in Decatur. Wanda was devoted to her family, friends and church.
Wanda married Larry L. King on June 2, 1957 and he survives. Also surviving are sisters: Marie Stewardson of Rosemount, MN and Eileen Jenkins and husband Bob of Grand Haven, MI; many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Marvin and Neva (Rankin) King; brother Roy Schwenker Jr.; sisters: Jeanette Alban and Shirley Dolowy; brothers-in-law: Herb Dolowy, Don Stewardson and Bill Elben, and sister-in-law: Jo Ann King Foster.
Wanda will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends. She will be remembered by her tender way of signing a thoughtful card or saying goodbye: “God loves you and so do I.”
