SHELBYVILLE, IL. — William Murphy Hill


William Murphy Hill, 88, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 4:57 AM Wednesday April 30, 2014 in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Mr. Hill was born April 23, 1926 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of William Sherman and Harriet Davis Hill.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII.

Murphy retired from the City of Shelbyville Water Department and previously worked for the Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou Corporation for 37 years.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Shelbyville.

Surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Betty Hill Warner; half brothers and sisters: Orlia Hill, Eddie Hill, Florence Hill, James A. “Buck” Hill, Sarah Hill Tull, Ernest Hill, George Hill, Luther Hill, James Harry Hill, Harley Agney, Minerva “Midge” Agney Thomas, Ruby Agney Kneller and Robert Agney; step-brothers and sisters: Jesse Johnson, Clarence Johnson, Ethel Johnson Hudson, Nettie Johnson Weller, Roy Johnson, Lloyd Johnson, Edith Stanley Alday, Albert Morris, and Fred Morris.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday May 3, 2014 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Rev. Mark Sanders will officiate. Visitation will be on hour before the service on Saturday in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. The family requests casual attire. Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made in Mr. Hill’s memory to “City of Shelbyville- Saving Orphaned Animals”, 120 South Morgan St. Shelbyville, IL 62565”. Online condolences:
