Elaine “Shorty” Haslett, 77, of Shelbyville passed away at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday (July 23, 2013) at the Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray and Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the Shelby Memorial Home Health or the Shelbyville Senior Center.

She was born December 27, 1935 in Shelbyville the daughter of Jasper Erwin and Mary Olive (Lambert) Poland. She was married to Phillip Haslett August 31, 1957 in St. Elmo.

Shorty graduated from Shelbyville High School and attended Sparks Business College. She worked as a life guard, bus driver, for the Daily Union, and for the City of Shelbyville in various positions and retired from the Water Department after 22 years. In later years she answered telephones after hours for local businesses. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, former member of the Moose Lodge, Band Aides and bowling leagues. She was an avid sports fan especially bowling, she played fast pitch softball and played the bass drum in the Queen City Municipal Band.

Surviving are son, Jay E. Haslett of Shelbyville; daughter, Tammy Grotts (Robert) of Pana; grandchildren, Ashley Bauer (Rich), Megan Burrell (fiancée, Cody Meachum), Jason Grotts, Seth Moeller (Tiffany), Brandon Moeller (Candi); great-grandchildren, Adelaide and Isabelle Bauer, Kerigan Scribner, Adrianne and Ellie Jaye Moeller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert and sister, Mary Alice.

The family would like to thank Shelby Home Care and Brandy, Shelby Memorial Hospital staff and Dr Bowers for the care of Shorty during her illness.
