Ralph O. Bly, 83, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 5:40 PM Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, in the Shelby Manor in Shelbyville.

Ralph was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Shelby County, IL, the son of Lawrence and Etta Elizabeth Tripp Bly.

He married Nancy Marie Martz on July 25, 1953 in Shelbyville. He married Helen Krantz on Sept. 30, 2000 in Beecher City, IL.

Ralph was a graduate of Shelbyville High School.

Ralph was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Decatur, IL for 31 years before his retirement.

He was a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4829 in Shelbyville, and the Eagles Club of Pana, IL.

Ralph served his country honorably during the Korean War in the United States Air Force.

He was an avid Bingo player and he loved fishing. He also was loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears.

Surviving is his wife Helen; children: Ralph Lynn (Julie) Bly Jr. of Shelbyville, Mike (Cindy) Bly of Strasburg, IL, Diane (Steve) Lucas of Findlay, Mark Bly of Westervelt and Angel (Jess) Shellenbarger of Shelbyville; step-children: Connie Welton of Shelbyville, Tim Morrison of Beecher City, IL, Roger Morrison of Effingham, IL and Brenda (Richard) Lohman of Mason, IL ; 32 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; twelve great great grandchildren (with one on the way); sisters: Violet Tripp of Shelbyville, Nancy Sue (Henry) Gatton of Shelbyville and Rosemary (Robert) Stephens of Decatur, IL; step-brothers: Richard Hensley and Steve Hensley.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, sons: Reuben and Terry; daughter: Meliah; grandsons Devon and Eric, step-mother Hanna Bly and step grandson Monty Morrison

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday Dec. 13, 2013 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of the service on Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Harbor Lights Hospice or the Shelbyville Manor Activity Fund.
