Formerly of Shelbyville, IL

Leo J. Eigsti, 94, died at Good Samaritan Society—Manson, IA on Fri. May 23, 2014.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Tues. May 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Manson Mennonite Church with a gathering time for friends and family from 9:30 until the time of the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Manson, IA. Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leo Joseph Eigsti was born at Shelbyville, IL, on February 4, 1920, the son of Joseph and Carrie (Hostetler) Eigsti. He received his education in Shelbyville, and then returned to help on the family farm, until entering the U. S. Army in 1943 and serving until 1947. Upon his return from the service, he was united in marriage with Marilyn A. Zehr on September 28, 1947 at Manson, IA. They returned to Illinois where Leo worked as a mechanic for 11 years. They then came back to Manson where he worked at New Idea in Fort Dodge. He was last employed with Pelz Brothers Construction as a carpenter until his retirement. 

Leo is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Karen (Ron) Liljedahl of Urbandale, IA; sons Dennis Eigsti of Manson, IA; Randy Joe (Joyce) Eigsti of West Des Moines, IA; Rodney (Lisa ) Eigsti of Norwalk, IA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother Roy( Rosie) Eigsti of Shelbyville, IL; sisters Esther Eigsti of Shelbyville, IL and Ruth (Lafe) Stewart of Decatur, IL.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and his daughter-in-law Marsha Eigsti.
