SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Douglas James Koontz


Douglas James Koontz, 59, of Lakewood, IL passed away at 3:08 PM Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, in his home.

Doug was born Jan. 23, 1954 in Shelby County, IL the son of James and Nelda McDonald Koontz.

He married Leah Mays on August 30, 1986 in Shelby County, IL.

Doug graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1971.

He loved bowling, camping and vacations with his family.

Doug was employed for 25 years at Schaffer Co. in Pana, IL and later retired from Grain Systems Inc. in Assumption, IL.

He was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and of the Teamsters Local of Decatur, IL. He was also a member and trustee of Pana, IL Eagles Club Aerie #4109.

Surviving are his wife Leah; mother Nelda Koontz of Lakewood, IL; daughter: Marie (Kevin Smith) Durbin of Fairmont City, IL; son Michael (Tina Gibson) Mays: of Ramsey, IL;

Grandchildren: James Durbin, Thomas Durbin, Lisa Durbin, Shawn Douglas Durbin, Joshua Lee Durbin, Deanna Durbin, Cybellia Durbin and Tabby Smith; step grandchildren: Dalton Quick, Marcy Quick, Cameron Gibson, Donavon Moore and Denver Jarrett; sister DiAnne (Darrell) Nohren of Lakewood.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Koontz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday Oct. 12, 2013 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Rev. Lynette DeAtley will officiate and Eagles funeral rites will be performed. Visitation will from 10:30 AM Saturday until service time. Family requests casual attire. Burial will be in Ohlman Cemetery at Ohlman, IL. Memorials may be made to the Eagles Club of Pana, IL.
