SHELBYVILLE, IL. — William A. "Bill" Furr
Formerly of Findlay
William A. “Bill” Furr, 86, of Bethany, IL, formerly of Findlay, IL, passed away at Mason Point in Sullivan, IL at 8:32 AM on Wednesday Mar. 5, 2014.
Bill was born May 30, 1927 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Glenn G. and Alma (Small) Furr.
He married Elaine Stringer on Jan. 1, 1949 and she passed away Oct. 18, 2012.
Bill graduated from Findlay High School in the Class of 1945. He enlisted in the United States Merchant Marine at the age of seventeen traveling the world and serving his country meritoriously during WWII.
Bill was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer. He, also, worked as a rural mail carrier in the Bethany, Findlay and Westervelt area for many years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the American Legion, United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge all of Bethany.
Surviving are his daughter Kathy (Terry) Burtsfield of South Bend, IN; grandchildren: Michael T. “Mick” Ferguson of Findlay, Alison (friend, Earl Freeland of Little Rock, AR) Ferguson of Tolono, IL and Dawn (T.G.) Redfern of Lovington, IL; great grandchildren: Garrett Ferguson, Janette Comstock, McKenzie Redfern and sister: Betty (George) Perry of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, his parents and sister and husband, Monte and Jim Hart.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday Mar. 9, 2014 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Findlay. Rev. Ron Newman will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until time of the service on Sunday in the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday Mar. 12, 2014 in Findlay Cemetery. Memorials in Bill’s memory may be made to Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville.
He will truly be missed by family, friends and special friend, Grace Gibbons of Bethany.
