SHELBYVILLE, IL. — William D. "Bill" Brewer


William D. “Bill” Brewer, 88, of Bethany passed away peacefully at 3:10 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family.

          Funeral services will be held10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Bethany. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Bethany, with Masonic Rites at 8:00 p.m. by the Geo A. Sentel Lodge #764 and the Findlay Shelbyville Jackson Lodge #53.  Burial will be in Todds Point Cemetery, Findlay. Memorials may be made to the Bethany Ambulance Service, donor’s choice or the Cancer Care Specialists of Decatur.

          Bill was born January 15, 1926 in Ivesdale, the son of Horace W. and Edith Alice (Long) Brewer. He married Betty L. Gonzales on December 11, 1948 in Fulton, KY. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2004. Bill was a retired lifetime farmer. He also worked for Caterpillar for 15 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Findlay, and Findlay Shelbyville Jackson Masonic Lodge #53. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and Ballroom dancing. He delivered turnips, eggs and his famous ham and beans to all. He was a member of Bethany School Board and Bethany Grain.

          Bill is survived by his sons, Michael (Margie) Brewer of Bethany, Gene (Linda) Brewer of Elkhorn, NE, Charles (Cherie) Brewer of Findlay and David (Sonya) Brewer of Bethany; daughters, Colleen Brewer of Bethany and Chris (Brian) Richardson of Bethany; brother, Robert (Darlene) Brewer of Bethany; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

          He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

          The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kairouz and staff.
