SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Virginia Pauline "Ginny" Bennett


Virginia Pauline “Ginny” Bennett, 79, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, November 24, 2013, in her residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Newman officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 29, in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.

She was born July 24, 1934, in Stonington, the daughter of John Lucian and Virgie Pauline Enlow Collenberger. She married Harold S. “Bud” Bennett on February 14, 1952, in Roswell, NM. He preceded her in death June 8, 2002.

Virginia was retired from Caterpillar, but had worked for G.E. and Mallory’s. She was a member of the Red Hat Society; River Rat Club Country Band, NRA, Eastern Star, Central Illinois Fox & Coon Hunters Association; County Line band in Herrick; Covered Bridge Band in Cowden, UAW #751, and had been a union steward for 7 years. She loved playing music, fishing, traveling south for the winter, doing needlework, painting, ceramics, and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Johnny (Lura) Bennett of Tower Hill and Judy (Steve) Hedenberg of Forsyth; 4 grandchildren: Zachary Bennett of Plano, TX, Andrew Bennett, LaGrange, TX; Casey (Chris) Montgomery of Decatur, Darcie McConnell of Forsyth; great grandchildren: Aiden, Ava, Kaleb, Briana, Gabriel, Logan; constant companion and caregiver Jack Cutler of Shelbyville; brothers: Charles Collenberger of Vancouver, WA, Jim Collenberger of Miami, FL, Wes (Kathy) Weekly of Tower Hill, Ron Patient of Dixon; sisters: Martha (Earl) Hays of Taylorville, Elsie (Jerry) Hall of Tower Hill, Debi (Dave) Pope of Tower Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Jerry Collenberger and John Collenberger; and sister Toyia Collenberger.

Memorials may be made to Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois or charity of choice.
