Beecher City

Madonna Davis, 105, of Beecher City, IL, passed away at 2:15 PM Thursday Feb. 20, 2014 in the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, IL. She was the last living, and oldest, of five sisters.

 Madonna was born Oct. 14, 1908 at Holland, IL in the daughter of James and Lucy Devore Hubbartt. 

She married John Martin Davis Sr. in 1946 and he passed away in 1954.

Madonna was a member, and past worth matron, of the Order of the Eastern Star in Beecher City.  In her early years she attended the Holland Church in Holland and was currently affiliated with the United Methodist Church of Beecher City.

 At one time, she was employed at the Holland General Store in Holland and later at Perkins General Store in Beecher City.  Madonna was locally famous for her coconut pies and hand made quilts.

Surviving is her son Marty Davis of Terre Haute, IN.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and four sisters: Wanda Phillips, Thelma Hubbartt, Blanche Lutz and Gaynelle Wheeler.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday Feb. 26, 2014 in Beecher City Cemetery.  Don Miller will officiate.  Visitation will be one hour before the service in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City.  An Eastern Star memorial ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the visitation on Wednesday in the funeral home.
