Shelbyville

Fred C. Kessel, 78, of Shelbyville died at 1:50 a.m. Friday (April 12, 2013) at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville with Rev. Dan Seibert officiating. Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Cystic Fibrosis or Camp Ondessonk in Ozark, IL.

Fred was born December 5, 1934 in Middlesworth the son of Fred C. and Jane (Hudson) Kessel. He married Linda Wonus Cook May 13, 1988 in Las Vegas, NV.

Fred was a supervisor at Mueller Co. in Decatur retiring after 42 years and formerly owned the Spigot in Shelbyville for 28 years. He attended the First United Methodist Church, was a member of the Moose and American Legion in Shelbyville, Elks in Pana,  AMVETS in Mount Dora, FL and served in the US Army Reserves. Fred loved to travel in his motor home.

Surviving are his wife, Linda, step sons, Jeff Cook (Lisa) of South Lake, TX and Jay Cook (Leeann) of Rochester; step daughter, Christy Biddle (David) of Shelbyville; step grandchildren, Jordon, Caley, Kayden, Will, Eli and Kambry Cook and Joni Gruen (Brian) ; step grandson-in-law, Chad Brachbill; 4 step great-grandchildren; brothers, Burl Kessel of Lakewood and Albert Kessel (Maxine) of Forest, OH; sister, Mary Jane Taylor of Decatur.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Edith Storey, Beulah Hentz, Vera Halbrook, Vivian Sherwood and step granddaughter, Angie Brachbill.
