SHELBYVILLE, IL. — AT1 Eric Wayne Gordon

Formerly of Shelbyville

AT1 Eric Wayne Gordon, 28, United States Navy, of Oklahoma City, OK, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, has passed away Sunday April 14, 2013 in Oklahoma, City, OK.

Eric was born January 8, 1985 in Decatur, IL, the son of Morris and Judy Winings Gordon.

He married his beloved wife Colette Michelle Weber Gordon on May 30, 2009.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 2003. He was processed through the St. Louis MEPS station in June of 2004. He graduated from RTC Great Lakes, IL in August of 2004. After extended intermediate level avionics training a NATTC Pensacola, FL his first duty station was with Fleet Readiness Center Northwest in Oak Harbor, WA. For the next two years he learned the basics of I-level aircraft maintenance and built a solid foundation as a Sailor and a technician. He transferred to Oklahoma City, OK in June of 2007 and was advanced to Petty Officer Third Class shortly after attending Core E-6B Training at CNATT De Tinker. His First assignment to the TACAMO community was in October of 2007 when he became part of the VQ-3 Ironmen. The next four years were busy, but rewarding. He qualified as a Collateral Duty Inspector, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and was advanced to Petty Officer Second Class. He transferred to STRACOMWING ONE in October of 2011.

While serving in the SCW-1 maintenance and logistics office, he played a critical role in the development and implementation of ongoing avionics modifications. He qualified to teach and facilitated multiple advanced troubleshooting courses that reduced fleet maintenance time and increased aircraft availability throughout the E-6Bfleet. He advanced to Petty Officer First Class in December of 2012 and was an active member of the ACW-1 First Class Association.

Eric was an amazing husband, son, brother and friend who found joy in making others happy. He could make anyone laugh or smile no matter the situation.

Surviving are his wife Colette Michelle Gordon; his parents Morris and Judy Gordon of Shelbyville; brothers: James Gordon, Jason (Crystal) Gordon and Joshua Gordon of all of Shelbyville and four nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents David S. and Delores J. Winings and paternal grandparents James Noble and Wanda I. Gordon.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday April 27, 2013 in the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Shelbyville with full military rites.
