SHELBYVILLE, IL. — LaVerne L. Verdeyen
LaVerne L. Verdeyen, 81, of Effingham, passed away at 6:09 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Military Rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 followed by a Celebration of LaVerne’s Life at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with Elder Bob Fergus from Christ’s Church of Effingham. Interment will be at a later date in Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday prior to services at the funeral home.

LaVerne was born on June 16, 1932 in Effingham, the son of Henry J. and Agnes (Wolfert) Verdeyen. He married Margaret E. “Margie” Hanna on November 10, 1954, and she preceded him in death on August 2, 1993.
LaVerne proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a life member of the Shelbyville VFW and Effingham DAV. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and participated in the construction of Lake Shelbyville Reservoir. He loved fishing and camping when he was not spending his time at the casino.
He is survived by his children, LaVerne (Robin) Verdeyen Jr. of Effingham, Brenda (Steve) Sloan of Strasburg, Judy Finke of Effingham, and Connie Jo (Steve) Emmerson of Orlando, FL; brother, Henry (Dorothy) Verdeyen of Altamont; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margie; grandchild, Ronnie Finke Jr.; son, Robert “Bobby” Verdeyen; and brother, Robert Verdeyen.
