SHELBYVILLE, IL. — William Edward "Ed" Kieffer


William Edward “Ed” Kieffer, 83, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 4:50 AM Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Pastor Don Pease will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 PM Wednesday. Masonic rites will be held at 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.

Ed was born Nov. 18, 1930 at Philadelphia, IL the son of Stephen and Rosa Nellie McGennis Kieffer.

Ed graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1949. He worked for Massey Ferguson for 25 years and managed the Shelbyville store. Ed was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer.

He married Betty Jasmon on Nov. 24, 1951 in Springfield, IL.

Ed served his country honorably as a medic in the 2nd Division, 23rd Regiment of the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville, charter member of the Shelbyville Lions Club, Life Member of Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville, Ansar Shrine of Springfield, IL and the Danville Consistory. Ed was a former commissioner for the City of Shelbyville.

Surviving are his wife Betty; daughters: Kathy (Larry) Smith of Shelbyville and Kim (George) Smith of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Summer ( Heath ) Summers of Shelbyville, Laura (Brad) Kazmer of Mt. Zion, IL and Kolton (Kaitlyn) Smith of Shelbyville: great grandchildren: Sophia Summers and Alyson Kazmer; step- great grandson Dylan Kazmer; brother Jim (Shirley) Kieffer of Williamsville, IL.

Ed will be sadly missed by his very close friends and business partners, Bill and Norma Riggins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Gladys Kieffer and brother Bill Kieffer.

Memorials may be made in Ed`s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville or Shelbyville FFA Chapter. On line condolences may be sent to the family at
