Eldon Dean Banning

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Eldon Dean Banning

Shelbyville

Eldon Dean Banning, 83, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday (May 9, 2013) in Decatur Memorial Hospital with his Family by his side.

Eldon was born July 23, 1929 in Cowden, IL the son of Delbert and Estella Askins Banning.

He married Joan Hodson July 23, 1949 in Cowden, IL.

Eldon’s 30 year career with the Illinois State Police included patrol duty, undercover assignments and after training at the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico, VA, security detail for the then Governor of Illinois, Richard Ogilvie.

After retiring in 1986 he became an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Jackson Lodge # 53 and the Shelby County Senior Center, where he served as President of the Board of Directors for several years. He and was a selfless and tireless volunteer for community causes.

Surviving his wife Joan; children: Kathie (Neil) Storm of Lakewood, IL, Dianne (Mike) Shallenberger, Doug (Kristi) Banning and Tina ( Louie) Donnel all of Shelbyville; sister-in-law Margaret Banning of Cowden; eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lester Banning, Hanley Banning, and Lyle Banning (in infancy); sisters: Wavalene Johnson and Faerie Banning (in childhood).

Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday May 11, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. The Rev. Dan Seibert will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to the time of the service on Saturday in the Church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorials may be made in Eldon’s honor to the Shelby County Senior Center or the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville.

Our Dad’s devotion to his family and friends was boundless. He will live in our hearts forever.
