SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Martha Emelyn Clawson

Neoga

Martha Emelyn Clawson, 97, of Heartland Christian Village, Neoga formerly of Mattoon passed away at 2:00 a.m. Friday (April 26, 2013).

She was born October 8, 1915 in Whitley Township, Moultrie County, IL the daughter of James Fredrick and Ethel Gertrude (Harpster) Elder. She married Herbert A. Clawson June 8, 1938 in Shelby County and he preceded her in death July 12, 1970.

She graduated from Windsor High School and Eastern Illinois Teachers College. She taught in rural schools in Shelby and Moultrie County. She was a member of the Southside Church of Christ, Mattoon, Women’s Reading Club, Mattoon, Coles County Retired Teachers Association and Home Extension. She loved to read, cook, word puzzles and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving is her daughter, Ardeth (Gary) Finley of Gays; granddaughters, Deborah (David) Fisher of Oconomowoc, WI and Shari (Darin) Swiger of Rock Hill, SC; great-grandchildren, Ryan Fisher of Gays, D.J., Candace, Michael and Sophia Fisher all of Oconomowoc, WI and Kristin and Andrew Swiger of Rock Hill SC.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor with Gary Finley officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be in Ash Grove Cemetery near Windsor. Memorials may be made to the Heartland Christian Village Auxiliary.
