Neoga

Frances J. Short, age 88, of Neoga, IL, passed away at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Heartland Christian Village in Neoga, IL.

The funeral service in her honor will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at the United Presbyterian Church, located at 704 Locust in Neoga, IL, 62447 with Reverend Joe Marting officiating. Burial will be in Neoga cemetery, Neoga, IL. Visitation was held Monday evening, May 13, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938.

Born November 26, 1924, in Mattoon, IL, Frances was the daughter of Reeves and Nora E. (Richards) Wiley. She married James A. Short in Neoga, IL, on May 29, 1944. He passed away in 2000. Survivors include their children, Jim Short and wife Linda of Mattoon, IL, Bob Short and wife Ruth of Neoga,

IL, and Mary Drake and husband Steve of Charleston, IL; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Short of Shelbyville, IL. She leaves ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tom Short; and one daughter, Jo Ellen Short.

Frances was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Neoga, IL, and the United Presbyterian Church Women's group. Other memberships included the American Legion Auxiliary for more than forty-five years, and The Order of the Eastern Star in Neoga, IL. Frances enjoyed quiet time sewing and playing word games; loved spending time outdoors, golfing, mushroom hunting and spending time at Lake Mattoon; and enjoyed collecting Indian artifacts and rock collecting. However, more than anything, she treasured spending time with family and friends, especially while traveling.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Frances' honor be made to the Neoga High School track program or the United Presbyterian Church in Neoga.
