SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Howard D. Gaston

Windsor

Howard D. Gaston, 97, of Windsor passed away at 2:47 p.m. Friday (May 17, 2013) at the Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, Windsor. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Windsor Cemetery with military rites. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Windsor American Legion or the Windsor United Methodist Church.

Howard was born January 3, 1916 in Findlay the son of William and Verna (Reynolds) Gaston. He married Irene Smith April 16, 1946 in Hillsboro and she preceded him in death August 13, 1998.

Howard was a graduate of Findlay High School. He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII serving a tour of duty in the Mediterranean area, North Africa, Italy, and Palestine (modern day Israel). He farmed in the Windsor area for over 65 years. He was a member of the Windsor United Methodist Church, Windsor American Legion serving in leadership positions, leader of Boy Scout Troop 64, served on Federal Land Bank Board and active in the Shelby County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his son, Keith Gaston (Patsy) of Brownsburg, IN; daughter-in-law, Linda Gaston of Peoria; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son, Terry Gaston.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Lola Belle Bottrell, Joe, Ann and Chris Hampton, David Smith and the nursing staff of the Shelby Memorial Hospital for their companionship and care of Howard.
