Irene G. Askins, 91, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Cowden, IL, passed away at 8:52 PM Wednesday August 28, 2013 in Shelby Manor in Shelbyville surrounded by her family. 

Irene was born Oct. 16, 1921 in Shelby County the daughter of Everett and Rebecca Smith Polley.

She married Dale Wright on Feb. 1, 1942 in St. Charles, MO and he passed away Mar. 21, 1949. She married Benjamin Askins on Dec. 24, 1949 in Mode, IL and he passed away on April 7, 2004.

Irene was loving homemaker for her family and for a while worked in home health care.

Surviving are children: Glen (Marilyn)Wright of Findlay, IL, Dalene Geisinger of Shelbyville, James (Dolores) Askins of Cowden, IL and Sheila Kay Nohren of Lovington, IL; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; brothers: Pearl Edward (Jesse) Polley of Decatur, IL and Lloyd Delbert (Francis) Polley of Decatur, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husbands: Dale and Benjamin; parents; one great grandchild, James Wright; one great great granddaughter in infancy; sister: Zola Mae Ruff and brothers: Franklin Polley and Everett William Polley. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday Sept. 2, 2013 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Pastor Darrell Hinkle will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM on Monday in the funeral home. The family requests casual attire. Burial will be in Gallagher Chapel Cemetery near Mode, IL. Memorials may be made in Irene’s memory to Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville, IL.
