SHELBYVILLE, IL. — John M. Niehls

Barto, PA

John M. Niehls, 80, of Barto, PA passed on from this life Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at home, surrounded by his loving wife and family. JM was born September 27, 1933, to John Walter & Ethel (Yarnell) in Holliday, IL.

John is survived by his wife Doris J. (Rich) of 62 years. In addition, he is survived by 3 sons: Mark husband of Beverly (Koch) of Douglassville, Kevin husband of Jane (Wendel) of Barto, and Jonathan husband of Mary (Colden) of Barto. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and along with 7 great grandchildren. Two additional great grandchildren are on the way. He said the highlight of many recent days were visits of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers Walter and Alan, and one great granddaughter Julia Paige Niehls.

John was a farmer having grown up on the farm in Holliday, IL which he owned at the time of his passing. He purchased his current farm in PA in 1966. Over time, he expanded his farm holdings in IL. John served in the US Air Force during the Korean War as an instructor on radar and airplane electrical systems rising to the level of Staff Sergeant. As a civilian, he spent his career working for what became the Unisys Corporation, Blue Bell, for 43 years. He retired in 2000 as a Senior Systems Demand Planning Manager.

At the time of his death he was a member of the Chesmont Church of Christ, Pottstown having served as a deacon and then later as a church builder and elder in three congregations: the Coventry Hills Church of Christ, Pottstown, the Roseville Church of Christ, Roseville, MN, and the Chesmont Church of Christ, Pottstown. John’s life was dedicated to living as a Christian, promoting the cause of Christ, and spreading the Gospel.

John valued education highly. He was a supporter and contributor to Christian Education, specifically Coventry Christian Schools in Pottstown where all of his grandchildren attended.
