SHELBYVILLE, IL. — John E. Dilley

Decatur, formerly of Shelbyville

John E. Dilley, 74, of Decatur, IL, formerly of Fancher, IL, passed away at 8:53 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 15, 2012) in Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur.  

John was born April 6, 1938 in Shelbyville, IL the son of John and Mary Westenhaver Dilley.

He married Lois Martin on April 15, 1960 in Shelbyville and she passed away on Dec, 9, 1981.

For 40 years, John was a maintenance welder at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Decatur.  He retired in 2004.

John served his country in the United States Air Force, and   for two years he served in Japan.  He was active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and founded several chapters.  One of the chapters he founded, and for several years directed, was at the Taylorville Correctional Center in Taylorville, IL.

He, formerly, served as a Boy Scout Leader in Cowden, IL.  He was an outdoorsman and was an avid hunter.

Surviving are his daughter, Wanda Walker of Mattoon, IL; granddaughter Niccie Orsborn and friend Carroll of Lafayette, IN; great granddaughter Madison Orsborn; half sister Ruthie Young and husband Butch of Assumption, IL

He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his parents, grandson Matt Orsborn and great grandson Braxton Allen.

Cremation rites will be accorded.  There will be no services, as was his request.  Arrangements are entrusted to Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
