Main Event Always Attracts Crowd - Even Indoors

Shelbyville High School gym was jumping on Thursday night, as hundreds of students and parents attended the annual Main Event sponsored by Main Street Elementary.
The theme for this year’s event was ‘Beach Party’ and even though threatening skies moved the function indoors, the atmosphere was festive and filled with activities.
The Main Event also serves as a fundraiser for student activities and materials.
Main Street teacher Shannon Hendrix commented, “We always attract more people when the weather is nice so it was a bit discouraging to have to hold it indoors. However, we added a few new attractions this year that were a big hit.”
A giant inflatable bounce castle and crawl-through caterpillar were the big draws this year, along with a cupcake-making station, ring toss, ball toss, limbo, fishing for prizes, face painting, and refreshment center.
“The bounce castle and 35-foot caterpillar obstacle course were very popular. We had waiting lines clear across the gym for those,” added Hendrix.
Teachers sign up with a classroom theme basket like camping, movie night, or snack, and asked for donations from the parents. These were raffled off at the end of the evening.
Principal Denise Bence and other teachers extended a thanks to all the parents and teachers who donated items and volunteered their time. “It wouldn’t have been a success without such great help,” added Bence.
