Its been 2 steps forward one step back this season for the Shelbyville Moulton baseball team (9-5). The trend continues. They lost to Charleston on Wednesday, 10-9. They beat Nokomis on Friday, 4-1, and beat Stew-Stras/Windsor, 3-0.
The Rams erupted against Charleston in the 1st inning, but then the rumbling lessened. Charleston was then able to charge back for the walk-off win, 10-9.
With one out, Jude Beals walked and Drake McDonald singled. Brody Boehm singled to load the bases. Nathan Trimble smacked a double, driving n 2 runs. Boehm scored on a passed ball, 3-0. Trimble scored on a wild pitch, 4-0.
Ethan Wells walked and with one out, Drew Nohren walked. Kaz Fox singled. Brachbill walked. Beals walked, but was out on a fielder's choice, 6-0.
Charleston got two of those runs back in the 1st. A lead-off error put a run on. A single and a double made it 6-2.
In the 2nd, Brody Boehm led off with a double. Trimble walked and Wells hit into a fielder's choice, driving in a run. Brady Boehm singled a run in. After a fielder's choice, Fox singled a run home, 9-2.
Charleston chipped away more in the 2nd. A single and a fielder's choice and a single at the bottom of the order set the table. The top of the order singled to load the bases. A walk forced a run in. With two outs, a triple made it 9-5. The batter was thrown out trying to score to end the inning.
Shelby failed to score the last 5 innings. McDonald reached on an error in the 3rd, but was left on. McDonalk retired Charleston in order in the 3rd. Brachbill threw out a batter, short to 1st. Trimble threw a batter out, 3rd to 1st. McDonald threw out a runner form the mound.
In the 4th, Brady Boehm walked with two outs, but was stranded. Charleston had a double with one out, then a walk and a wild pitch allowed a run, 9-6. Shelby went in order in the 5th. Charleston chipped away in the 5th.
A lead-off single, a fielder's choice, a double chased McDonald and brought on Trimble in relief. A single made it 9-7. An error in left let another run in, 9-8.
Trimble singled with 2 outs in the 6th. Wells singled and ducks were on the pond. A strikeout shot them down. Charleston went in order in the 6th. Brachbill snagged a pop up. Brachbill threw out the next two batters short to 1st.
Shelby needed insurance in the 7th. Brachbill walked with two outs and a ground out canceled the policy.
The Charleston home team came to the plate. They hit a lead-off single. Another single threatened the Ram lead. A ground out, short to 1st allowed the tying run with one out, 9-9.
Brachbill snared a pop up at short for the 2nd out. on the verge of going to extra-innings, Shelby booted the next ball. The runner on 3rd scored for the Charleston walk-off win.
Brody Boehm, Nathan Trimble and Kaz Fox had two hits each in the loss and Boehm scored twice. Trimble took the loss in relief. Charleston used 4 pitchers to choke off the Ram bats.

Shelbyville pieced together a win against Nokomis on Friday. They scored 1st again, but had to hold that lead tightly.
Nathan Trimble threw out the first Nokomis batter. Ethan Wells struck out the 2nd batter. Brody Boehm made a 3-unassisted play at 1st to get Nokomis in order.
In the Ram 1st, Ty Brachbill led off with a triple. After two pop ups, Brody Boehm singled Brachbill across, 1-0.
Nokomis got some traction in the 2nd on a hit batter and a walk. Brachbill threw out a batter at 1st. Boehm threw home to get the runner trying to score on a fielder's choice. Wells threw out the next batter at 1st. Shelby went in order in the 2nd.
Nokomis threatened in the 3rd. Wells threw out the first batter at 1st. A single and a walk challenged the Rams. A pop up to Wells and a ground ball to short got the next two batters out. Jude Beals single with two outs in the Ram 3rd, but was left on.
Nokomis got a single in the 4th, but Fox tracked down a fly in center to secure the 3rd out. Trimble walked in the Ram 4th, but was stranded. Nokomis went in order in the 5th, as Calvin Miller squeezed a fly in right for the 3rd out.
Shelby finally got some separation in the 5th. Drew Nohren led off, reaching on an error. With one out, Brachbill walked. Nokomis changed pitchers. Beals and McDonald had consecutive RBI-singles, 3-0.
Shelby booted the ball in the 6th, but allowed no runs. Shelby stretched their lead to 4 runs in the 6th. Miller walked with one out. Nohren singled and Miller scored on an error in left on the play. With two outs, Brachbill walked, but was left on, 4-0.
Nokomis ruined the shutout in the 7th. With one out, they got a single. A passed ball and an error moved him to 3rd. A walk and a single made it 4-1, but the batter was out on the base paths to end the game.
Brachbill and Beals had two hits. Brachbill scored twice and had a triple.

On Monday, Shelby went to Windsor to take on the Stew-Stras/Windsor Comets. Drake McDonald was back on the mound and shut the Comets out for the 6 innings he pitched. Nate Trimble came in for an inning and closed the game out.
Rhett Rincker and Jordan Wittenberg limited the Rams, but didn't get run support. Rincker threw 3 innings, allowing no runs on 2 hits with 4 Ks. Wittenberg threw 4 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and a walk, with 5 Ks.
Shelby didn't score until the 4th and 5th. McDonald doubled in the 1st, but was left on base. McDonald KO'd the first two batters he faced. Trimble threw out the 3rd batter, 3rd to 1st.
Rincker threw out a Ram in the 2nd and KO'd the second batter. Tanner Price threw out the 3rd batter, 2nd to 1st. SSW threatened. Daniel Davis led off being hit by a pitch.
Carter Chaney walked. Ty Wetherell hit a fielder's choice getting the lead runner at home. McDonald then KO'd two straight batters with a man on 3rd to deny the run.
Brachbill singled with two outs in the Ram 3rd, but was stranded. SSW went in order in the 3rd. With one out in the Ram 4th, Brody Boehm singled against the SSW reliever. He advanced on two passed balls and then stole home, 1-0. Wittenberg then rang up the next two batters.
Wittenberg led off the SSW 4th with a single. McDonald rang up two in a row, then Brachbill threw out a batter, short to 1st.
In the Ram 5th, Wittenberg threw a K, but Kaz Fox followed with a double. Brachbill singled and Jude Beals doubled two runs home, 3-0. Wittenberg threw out the next batter and then threw a K.
McDonald Ko'd the first two batters in the SSW 5th. He hit Price and Austin Wittenberg was safe on a fielder's choice error. McDonald put down the revolt with a K.
Shelby went in order in the 6th. Austin Wittenberg threw out a batter, short to 1st and his brother threw a K. Austin threw out the 3rd batter at 1st.
Jordan Wittenberg led off with a single in the SSW 6th. McDonald responded with a K. Trimble snagged a pop up at 3rd and McDonald threw out the 3rd out at 1st.
Wittenberg rang up the first two Rams of the 7th. Brachbill singled, but Wittenberg threw out the last Ram at 1st.
Trimble took the hill as the Ram closer in the 7th. He got the first batter to pop up to Brachbill at short. Trimble rang up the next two batters for the save.
Brachbill hit 3-for-4 against SSW, scoring once. Beals, Fox and McDonald had solo hits, but they were doubles.
Shelbyville (9-5) is the 3rd seed of their own regional. They were to play 6th seed Brownstown on 9/11. If the Rams win, they have a rematch with Stew-Stras/Windsor (who has a 1st round bye) on Saturday in the regional semifinal at noon.
