The Shelbyville Daily Union Athletes of the Week, sponsored by the Prairie National Bank, not only held court recently, they ruled.
Shelbyville tennis players Jordan Gaston and Nick Selby were the hottest part of the Rams recent back-to-back team wins.
Gaston’s success started before the two-game streak when he won both his singles match, 6-1, 6-2 and his doubles match, 6-7, 6-3, 10-5, with Selby against Hillsboro.
Gaston and Selby then both won their singles and doubles matches against Decatur MacArthur. Selby was moved up to #1 singles and won, 10-4. Gaston won his singles match, 10-0. He and Selby won their #1 doubles match, 10-8 in what was a 9-0 Shelby win.
Selby then won his next #1 singles match against Taylorville, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Gaston won his match 6-2, 7-5. They combined again to win their doubles match, 6-2, 6-4.
Including the Taylorville match which Shelby won 5-4, Gaston had won the last six matches he had played and Selby had won six of his last seven matches. That’s hot.
Nick Selby is the son of John and Cyndi Selby of Shelbyville and Jordan Gaston is the son of Chadd and Kim Gaston of Shelbyville.
