Throw a rock in any direction in the Central A & M Lady Raiders track team tent and you could hit a deserving Athlete of the Week, but none more deserving than Lauren Adcock.
Adcock, a sensational sophomore, burst on the scene last year as a fab freshman and has avoided the sophomore slump. This last week, Adcock was a double-conference champion in individual events and just missed being a triple-champ by half an inch.
Adcock competed at the Okaw Valley Conference meet last week in Sullivan and won the quarter (1:00.0) over other top area runners. She equalled that performance in the 800 meters (2:23.39). Adcock then came within one half-inch of winning the long jump (17-1.5).
Adcock still earned at least part of a third conference championship as the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 relay (4:10.81).
The OVC meet was nothing new for Adcock, who more often than not, wins at least two or three individual events and one relay in every meet she competes.
Adcock was a state-qualifier last year in the 400, the 800, the long jump and as the anchor of the 3200 relay. Adcock earned a fourth place state medal as a member of that relay and placed 11th in the state in the 800, as a freshman.
Adcock has also branched out in events this season. She won a triple jump at a meet (32-2) and a 200 meter dash (27.03)
Lauren Adcock is the daughter of Robert and Sherry Adcock of Moweaqua.
