After sectional duels, Shelbyville Moulton will be sending ten to the IESA Class 2A State Track Meet on Friday, including one top-seed, while two other Shelby Area teams are sending seven athletes each.

Shelbyville and Sullivan were in the same sectional and they battled for position in three of the four meets. Shelbyville boys finished three spots ahead of Sullivan in the 7th grade meet. The Rams were fourth (53 points), while Sullivan was seventh (28). Shelbyville also edged Sullivan in the 8th grade meet. Shelby was ninth (18), while Sullivan was tenth (17). Sullivan girls edged Shelby in both of their meets. Sullivan was 11th in the 7th meet (14 points), while Shelby was 12th (9 points). Sullivan was fourth in the 8th meet (47), while Shelby was fifth ((46).

However, Shelbyville is the school with a #1 seed in the state meet. Jacob Keown, a member of the conference champion Ram 7th grade boys team and who broke more than a few records this season, qualified for state in three events. He is the top-seed in the long jump with a sectional championship leap of 18 feet, four inches. He also is the 10th-seed in the 100 meter dash (12.12) and the 22nd seed in the 200 meter dash (25.71).

Sullivan’s Caden May, who has sparred with Keown this season, is seeded 14th in the 200 (25.59) on the strength of his .12 win in the sectional race over Keown. May is also a qualifier in the high jump, ranking fifth in the state.

Cinnae Martin, another Moulton 7th grader, has earned a fourth-seed at state in the 7AA girls shot put with her sectional runner-up throw of 30 feet, 10.75 inches. Fellow 7th grade Ram Seth Applegate has also secured a top ten ranking at state. Applegate is the 8th-seed at state in the 800 meter run, based on his sectional runner-up time of 2:27.64.

Pana has one top ten ranked athlete headed for state. Allie Schoonover heads to state with a 3-seed in the high jump.

Brandon Skowronski of Shelbyville won a sectional championship in he 200 meter dash (24.57) and heads to 2A State with the 17th fastest time, while dueling distance runners, Caitlyn Cordell of Sullivan and Kayley Brown of Shelbyville take their 1, 2 finish in the mile at sectional to the state meet on Friday. Cordell ran a 5:42.89 to get the sectional title and a 14-seed at state, while Brown ran a sectional runner-up time of 5:51.63 to earn a 22nd-seed at state.

8th girls: Kayley Brown-1600 (38); 4x4 relay (Kayley Brown, Hannah Fogleman, Alicia Pizzo, Katelyn Duckett, alt-Dylann Wilkinson) (20)

Sullivan State Qualifiers

7th boys: Caden May-high jump (5), 200 dash (14)

8th boys: Cameron Harvey 1600 (16)
