Two former Shelbyville Ram football players will be competing in the Order of the Eastern Star All-Star Football Game this Saturday, June 27 at 4 p.m. at Frank M. Lindsay Field at Millikin University.

Cory Tripp and Justin Walen, both all-OVC selections from last year’’s Ram squad will play for the East squad. Tripp was a unanimous pick for 1st Team OVC -Black Division both as an offensive lineman and as a defensive lineman. Walen was 1st-Team OVC-Black Division as a tight end.

Despite playing hurt most of the season, Tripp, also and state-level track and field star, led the Rams in tackles and sacks this season. Tripp had 89 tackles (34 more than the second place man) with a team-high 62 solo tackles and a team-high 27 assists. Tripp also had a team-high ten quarterback sacks and a team-high ten tackles for loss. No other Ram had more than one QB sack.

Tripp had at least three-games with double-digit tackles. He had 11 tackles and two sacks (3 yards, 7 yards) against Argenta. He had 11 tackles and two sacks (8 yards, 3 yards) against Warrensburg. Ha had ten tackles against Monticello and two sacks. He had nine tackles and two sacks against Clinton. Against Clinton Tripp had two sacks, one of ten yards.

Walen was Shelbyville’s leading receiver with 266 receiving yards and he caught two balls for touchdowns. He caught one touchdown against Warrensburg, a 37 yard pass from starting quarterback David Mast. Walen caught his other touchdown against Clinton, a 14-yard pass from back-up QB Caine Cloe.

Tripp: TACKLES-Cory Tripp 89 (62 solo/27 assist), 10 QB sacks, 10 for loss, 1 fumble recovery; RUSHING-Cory Tripp 1 carry, 2 yards, 2.0 avg.

Walen: RECEIVING-Justin Walen 16 catches, 266 yards, 16.6 avg., 2 TDs; TACKLES-Justin Walen 18 (12/6), 1 for loss
