Shelbyville High cross country swept their own Shelby Trail Invite today as the boys took the top spot individually and as a team and the girls took 2nd individually and 1st as a team.

The Ram boys won comfortably with 47 points on their constantly upgrading signature course on the General Dacey Trail in Shelbyville's Forest Park. They bested Cumberland with 83 points, Dieterich with 91, Neoga with 91, St. Anthony 98, Cowden-Herrick 136, and Central A&M 154.

Jeremy Reel (Stew-Stras/Shelby Co-op) set a new course record with a time of 16:28.

The Lady Rams won even without two of their veteran runners, squeaking by Altamont. Shelby had51 points and Altamont 57. Shelby's Katelyn Duckett , who splits time bewteen cross country and volleyball, came in second behind Liz Wortman of St. Anthony. Wortman's time was 19:19 and Duckett's was 19:36.

Helping Reel get the 3rd straight Trail Invite win for the boys were Top Ten finishers freshman Neil Yockey (4th-17:40) and Nick Selby (8th-18:05). Two more Rams were in the Top 20. Freshman Seth Applegate (16th-18:30) and Taylor Finks (20th-18:45).

Helping Duckett grab the gold were teammates Alicia Pizzo, who finished 4th (19:58) and Erin Yockey, who finished 5th (20:01). Kayley Brown continued to run well, finishing in 15th (22:08),

She had to step up and so did someone else, because Jackie Eberspacher was gone with a family conflict and Laura Jesse isn't back yet from injury. Someone had to fill the fifth scorer slot and Carisa Wilson stepped up. Wilson finished in 29th with a time of 24:04. Wilson's finish tipped the scales in the Lady Rams favor. Allie Pasley finished in 32nd (24:31) , also good enough to push Shelby over the top if she was needed.

Alex Turner of Cowden-Herrick, a program that had no team last year, finished strong to take third overall (17:37) for the boys. Turner pulled a long four other scorers in his wake in the rebuilding program and was good enough to beat Central A&M. New coach and former Hornet athlete Andy Nohren said it was the teams best meet overall of the season. The Hornets had another runner place in the Top Ten, Zach Miller, taking 10th with a time of 18:08.

Central A&M had a Top Ten performance o the boys side and a courageous finish on the girls side. Broderick Rowcliff finished ninth for the Raiders (18:06) and freshman Kaitlyn Corzine finished fourth overall in the girls meet.

Corzine had multiple state championships from IESA State Track over the last few years. In her fab freshman season in high school, Corzine is showing the potential greatness she enjoyed in middle school. Corzine was running fifth out of the first loop an still fifth, behind Shelby's Erin Yockey coming up the hill before the final loop. Corzine came out of the loop motoring in fourth and gutting out an attempt to catch Mallory Wendling of Altamont, while staying ahead of Ali Pizzo who had moved up from sixt to fifth. Corzine came into the chute with nothing left and legs turning to jello as she down-shifted. She then stood among the leaders atthe awards table.

Shelby cross-country hosts St. Teresa on Tuesday, while A&M has one squad at Argenta and the other hosting Maroa. Cowden-Herrick is off until Saturday when they got to Tuscola, where they will also be joined by A&M.
