Beecher City Wins 5th Place

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Beecher City boys basketball found themselves in the 5th place gam on the final day of the Dieterich Holiday Tournament and they didn't waste the opportunity, beating Christ Our Rock, 57-47.

The Eagles soared from the opening tip, gaining an early lead and pushing it out with a 17-8 run. The held on to momentum and stayed a pace ahead in the 2nd with a 19-14 run and ext3ending to a 14-point lead at the half, 36-22.

Christ Our Rock must have had a come to Jesus Meeting in the locker room, because they came out jumped on B.C. with a 16-9 run. C.O.R. slashed the margin to just seven points heading into the 4th with BC in their sights, 45-38.

But like Br'er Rabbit the Eagles stayed elusively out of reach and pushed their lead back to double-digits at the final buzzer.

Brady Barnes was large and in charge in this game, scoring 25 points. Barnes scored 10 times from the floor and got to the line four times, making 5-of-8.

Austin Rexroad followed with 13 points, including two treys. C.O.R. had one player in double figures, Boehne, with 16.

The early lead was key for the Eagles as well as the stiff-arm finish. B.C. made 23 buckets and C.O.R. 22. They both made three 3-pointers. So scoring came down to free throws.

C.O.R. only got to the line for three free throws, amking two. B.C. shot 16 free throws, making 10 an 8-point advantage. That plus the extra deuce were the margin of victory.
