SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Shelbyville (4-9) was in the driver's seat, but they forgot to buckle their seat belt. Argenta (4-7) took control with a 26-11 run in crunch time and passed the Rams at the wire, 49-45.

The Rams opened the game with an 18-3 run in what looked to be a blowout at Argenta on Friday. Argenta only averages 42 points per game, while Shelbyville averages 54.

Sure thing for Shelby, right? No, because the Rams allow more points than they score and have been challenged in the 4th and failed to challenge in the 4th, this season.

After the gangbuster start, the Rams scored just six points in the 2nd period and still had a 15-point lead at the half, 24-9. The Rams failed to get more separation in the 3rd and Argenta trimmed the lead down to 11 points heading into the fateful 4th, 34-23.

Argenta answered the Rams 1st period run with a big 4th period run that left the Rams stunned. AO out-scored Shelbyville 26-11 with the game on the line and won by four.

One thing that hurt the Rams was the absence of their leading scorer and point guard, Spencer Shadwell (11 ppg).

Shelbyville got 35 of their points inside the arc and shot 55% from 2-point territory. That's impressive.

The killer was 3-point shooting. They shot just 13, a reasonable amount. However, they only made one (8%). That dropped their overall shooting percentage to just 42% from the field.

Despite getting to the line for 14 free throws, they only shot 50%, making seven.

The Rams were great again on the boards, grabbing 32 rebounds, led by Luke McConnell with 12. They also only turned the ball over just four times, while dishing seven assists and stealing the ball four times.

Cwenton Williams led the Rams with 20 points, the only man in double figures. Williams scored eight times from the floor (67%) and was a perfect 4-of-4 at the stripe. He had three rebounds and only one turnover and one foul.

The loss hurts the Rams (1-1 Okaw) goal of going .500 in the conference, since Argenta was one of those games they were counting on winning.

Shelbyville (4-9, 1-1 Okaw) hosts conference foe Monticello on Tuesday night, then travels to Central A&M on Friday.
