Fall female athleteof the year

The Daily Union Fall Female Athlete of the Year was the leader of the her school’s most successful volleyball team in the last 18 years.

Junior outside hitter Kendall Knop was the leading scorer in combined statistics and led the 2013 State Runner-up Stew-Stras volleyball team in three of the five individual aspects of the game.

Although just 5’6” tall, the outside hitter swung for 347 kills in 41 matches (8.46/match). Knop also led the defense with 348 digs (8.49/match), averaging just under a double-double per match.

Knop was also the leading server on the team with 77 aces, over 30 aces more than the team’s second best server.

Knop had a personal season-high 18 kills in the Nokomis Super-Sectional Championship that launched the Comets back to State for the first time in 18 years. Knop also had four aces and 10 digs against Cinderella team Liberty, winning 25-20, 24-26, 25-18.

Knop had 13 kills against rival St. Anthony during the regular season to guarantee the Comets a share of the NTC regular season title. She had 14 kills against Gibault and 14 more against Edwards County in back-to-back matches at the Mt. Pulaski tourney. Edwards County was the Class 2A State Runner-up this season. She swung for 53 kills and had 54 digs in the Mt. Pulaski pre-postseason tourney.

Knop had 13 kills and 20 digs v. Neoga in the gold flight of the NTC tourney and 44 total kills and 32 digs in the four matches, taking 2nd place.

Knop also had a season-high and team-high 23 digs in one match, a loss to Owensboro, Kentucky in the Crossroads Tourney. She had 70 digs in that tourney with 34 kills.

Knop had 31 kills, 31 digs in a comeback effort at thePana Invitational to lead Stew-Stras to another 2nd place tourney finish.

Individual 2013 Knop stats: 347 kills (8.4/match), 6 blocks, 76 aces (1.85/match), 10 assists, 334 digs (8.49/match). Season Highs in one match: 18 kills, 1 block, 6 aces, 1 assist, 23 digs.
