Stew-Stras 8th 3rd At Home

SHELBYVILLE, IL. — Stew-Stras 8th grade basketball hosted a tournament on Saturday and salvaged a 3rd place finish beating Cumberland, 47-38, after a close loss to Greenville, 39-33. St. Anthony won the tourney.

Stew-Stras fell behind early, but then stormed back by the half. Greenville opened with a 10-4 run, only to have Stew-Stas reply with a 16-7 run in the 2nd and take a 3-point lead at the break, 20-17.

A defensive 3rd saw Greenville knott eh score at 24-24 heading into the 4th. Who would go to the title game would be decided in the final 6:00.

Greenville exploded for a 15-9 run and score the win. Free throws were key.

Stew-Stras out-scored Greenville 32-29 from the floor, but Greenville made 10 free throws to Stew-Stras one. That gave them a 9-point ad at the line and a 6-point ad on the scoreboard at the final buzzer.

Thies led all scorers with 13 points, including a pair of treys. Greenville had two players in double figures, Doll with 11 and Roadman with 10. The leaders left the two teams even with 21 points each. The rest of the Greenville players out-scored the rest of the Stew-Stras scorers 18-12.
