---- — Although somewhat offensively frustrating, the Windsor softball defense was stellar and ace Lindsay Floyd threw a 4-hit shutout to begin the NTC tourney by beating St. Elmo, 5-0.

Windsor had to scrape together their five unearned runs, despite getting their lead-off hitter on base in all five innings. Dani Bell started off the bottom of the 1st with a hit. The speedy Bell could have circumnavigated the bases in no time, but the next batter flew out. The following batter hit one up the middle to force Bell out at 2nd.

Kassy Strowmatt led off the 2nd with another lead-off hit. Mercedes Austin sac bunted her into scoring position. A strikeout and a ground out kept Windsor scoreless again.

In the 3rd, Bayleigh Tabor beat out a infield single. Bell singled again and the runners moved up on a passed ball. Floyd hit a tailing shot to right field that was caught foul and Tabor tagged up and beat the throw home, 1-0. Another passed ball scored Bell, 2-0.

In the 4th, Austin drew a lead-off walk, but a sac bunt attempt was popped up. The next batter popped up her bunt attempt. Tabor drew a walk. Austin went to 3rd on a passed ball. With runners in scoring position again, a pop out ended the at bat.

In the 5th, still up just 2-0, Floyd drew a lead-off walk and went to 2nd on a passed ball. A pop out and a good play on a line-out in right threatened the Windsor opportunity again. However, Strowmatt reached on an error on the 3rd baseman. However, the carom went to the shortstop and Floyd was caught in a run down going to 3rd.

Floyd went back towards 2nd, then had to go back towards 3rd. She didn't beat the throw, but got under the tag, safe. Strowmatt stole 2nd. Austin hit a ball to the 2nd baseman and it gave her trouble. Austin reached on the error as both Floyd and Strowmatt scored, 4-0.

Meanwhile, Floyd allowed four hits, no walks, while striking out eight. She gave up her first hit in the 3rd. However, Bell threw out the runner trying to steal 2nd. She gave up another hit in the inning, but that runner was out at 2nd, as well.

She gave up her third hit in the 5th, but then KO's the next batter, caught a pop up, then Asutin threw out the following batter, 2nd to 1st.

Windsor added a run in the 6th for the 5-0 win.
